May is here again, so it must be time for Intercity Transit’s annual Bicycle Commuter Contest! Throughout the month, residents of Thurston County are leaving their cars at home and cycling to work to improve their health and the environment (and, of course, to win prizes).
Eager to promote this event, we are sponsoring it with gift certificates to our retail stores; and we've also formed a fabulous team of cyclists (known as the Chain Gang ) to collectively peddle out as many miles as possible. Olympia Roaster and Production Supervisor, Brian Meyers is organizing B&B’s Chain Gang for the second year running. He's produced team shirts for everyone (designed by Oly Production Specialist, Henri Chavis), and he'll be keeping tally of the team’s mileage as the month progresses. He's also hoping to track how many miles they cycle across a map of the US, to see how far they can go.
Last year’s Chain Gang managed to secure a prize for its consistency: multiple riders riding multiple days. We're hoping that this year, with at least twenty participants, the Chain Gang will beat their record. As Brian says, it's great to encourage ways in which we can all contribute to being green and of course, “to have more fun at work.”
