DETAILS:

When we’re out meeting people and serving coffee at events, we often ask folks how they brew their coffee at home. Self-professed coffee lovers who drink specialty coffee at home often say they love their French Press.

For over 70 years the Bodum family has been creating exceptional drinkware for coffee and tea.

The Scandinavian design of their Chambord French Press is easily one of the most recognizable home coffee brewing tools in the world. First crafted in the 1950’s, the design has changed little other than to incorporate new technologies to ensure environmental soundness in production.

The simple design relies on replaceable parts, so years of use can be had by keeping them clean and beautiful with a few simple daily steps. All of our cafes use the Chambord French Press in their daily operations and we are able to do so thanks to the low maintenance and ease of cleaning.

CONSTRUCTION AND COMPONENTS
A Closeup photograph of the glass portion of the Bodum Chambord French Press.

Borosilicate glass structure with 34 fl oz brew capacity is good for 2-3 servings and stainless steel components have a glossy chrome casting, making the Chambord French Press easy to maintain.

The thin mesh screen allows the brewed liquor to be separated from the grounds when extraction is completed and the simple parts can be disassembled for cleaning in seconds.

EASY BREWING

Brewing is easy with a French Press, all you need are coarsely ground coffee and hot water (198 - 201 degrees F)

Check out our illustrated brewing guide over on our blog.

1. Add 7 grams of coffee per 6oz of water to be used

2. Pour hot water over grounds

3. Place lid and plunger assembly onto vessel and gently press plunger until the plungers mesh screen is slightly below water level, submerging the mass of floating coffee completely

3. Let steep for 3-5 minutes

4. Press and serve immediately

MAINTENANCE

Caring for your Bodum Chambord is as easy as unscrewing the mesh screen assembly from the stem, rinsing thoroughly, then carefully using a soft cloth or sponge to clean out the interior of the glass pot.

Though all components are dishwasher safe- we recommend gently cleaning them by hand.

If you are a daily coffee drinker, we recommend soaking the components once a week in a solution of baking soda and hot water before a thorough rinse.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
  • Q: Can I brew loose leaf tea in my French Press?
A: The screen in the press is fine enough to strain tea leaves and make a fine pot of tea. If the press is also used to make coffee, be sure to wash the screen well to remove coffee oils.
  • Q: Does the coffee ever touch plastic when brewing with the Bodum Chambord French Press?
Yes, while pouring your brewed coffee it passes through a screen on the inside lip of the lid.
  • Q: What is the difference between the Bodum Chambord French Press and the Bodum Brazil French Press?
There are several differences. The Chambord is a higher quality press, the primary difference is the internal plunger is held together with stainless steel hardware. The brazil has plastic hardware on the internal plunger, which we've seen wear out over time.
